Finding ways to reach out to the world and let them know who you are and what you have to offer as a professional can be hard by using only word of mouth. You could write out some flyers and hope you can post them somewhere where people will find them. However, if they are not noticed and everyone just seems to pass by them without even a fast look, it’s a wasted effort.

You want your business cards to be attention grabbers. You want them to be easy to read and straight to the point. In order to have the right design to grab the attention of people, you have to have the right ingredients to be able to market yourself and your services. For instance, you can get customized lanyards for visitors and your customers, which will grab peoples’ attention quickly.

Ideas

You could go to a print shop and have them bring out templates that you can select from. Then, you have the printer do the printing for you and when done, you go in and proofread it to be sure the information is correct. Next, you pay for the services, which can be anywhere from cheap to expensive depending on paper quality and any special feature.

You are now on your way with your new personal business cards. If you are able to pass them out quickly, then be sure to order supplies from the professional printer when you run low. This can get very costly, but if it works, it can be worth the cost. With professional printers, they use templates and many other people might have the same design you have. This would make your card blend in with the others and people might be more likely to notice the text.

Scott Ginsburg of The Power of Approachability, in his article, “How to Make Business Cards Unforgettable” states, “Every time I hear someone say, ‘Can I have one of your business cards?’ I get excited.” He spent several hours designing his cards until he got it right. He showed others to get their feedback and with good reviews, he loves his cards and says it was well worth it.

Tips for Designing

Most of us might not be so innovative as to design our own cards. There are plenty of printing sources out there that we can use. When choosing a design for your personal business cards, you will want to ask yourself, how do they stack up? Do they stand out? What type of creative enhancement is used such as size, shape and material?

Some people have their cards designed from plastic rather than cardboard and some might go as far as having a special design made for a conference or seminar such as the use of chocolate or magnets and so on.

Passing cards out locally is a smart idea. Remember also:

•Are there reminders noted on the business card?
•What etiquette is used?
•Are they professional looking?
•Are your cards easy to read?

For instance, you do not want to have pink background and small white lettering. This weak color combination will make the information hard to see.

Miranda Brookins of Demand Media “Tips on Designing Business Cards,” states, “business cards are one of the simplest, most popular ways to market yourself and your services.

According to Fortis College, everyone should have business cards. It might be the difference in whether you get the job or not.

Whatever way you choose, either a professional printing service or designing your own, make sure to proofread the card’s text then show them to others to get some feedback. It may make all difference in your success.
